Some of the sweetest moments at home are the ones we never really plan.

We talk a lot around here about hospitality, having people over, loving on them, and making them feel cared for. Sometimes that means planning a gathering, setting the table, or cooking for a crowd. Other times, it is simply opening the door when someone you love stops by.

A Visit From My Brother

My brother Seth stopped by, and it was really nice having him here with us for the evening. We have known each other our whole lives, of course, and there is something special about sitting around your own home with your little brother, catching up and having the kind of good conversation that comes easily with family.

I love that our home can be a place where the people we love feel comfortable enough to stop by, settle in, and just be themselves. That is the kind of home Joey and I want to have. Not a perfect one, but a welcoming one.

Smoked Crawfish Dip and LSU Football

For game night, Joey made one of those recipes that is just right for LSU football: smoked crawfish dip on the grill. It started with crawfish, Velveeta, cream cheese, a block of pepper jack cheese, shredded cheese, and a can of evaporated milk, all coming together into a warm, rich dip.

Recipe inspiration: Joey found this smoked crawfish dip recipe from The Blind Cajun Cook on TikTok.

He put everything together and let it smoke on the grill while we settled in for the evening. There is something about food cooking outside, football on the television, and family gathered at home that makes an ordinary Saturday feel like its own little occasion.

Once the dip was ready, we brought it inside and served it in one of my decorative dishes on the table while the LSU game played in the background. It was simple, cozy, and exactly the kind of evening we enjoy around here.

Looking Toward Sunday

And then there is Sunday. I love ending a Saturday knowing Sunday morning is waiting for us. There is something grounding about a weekend that holds a little family time, food around the table, laughter, and then worship with our church family the next morning.

Maybe hospitality really is that simple. Make room. Open the door. Feed people something good. Sit down long enough to have a real conversation. Let the people you love know there is always a place for them in your home.

Around Your Table

What is your favorite game-day recipe, or your favorite simple way to make family and friends feel at home? I would love to hear about it in the comments.
