Of all the little spots in our house, this corner of the parlor has quietly become one of my favorites. Every time I walk through the room, my eye goes straight to the mantel and the mix of pieces gathered there.
The ornate antique clock is definitely the star. Beside it, the warm brass lamp, framed artwork, and greenery keep the mantel from feeling too formal. None of it was chosen as a matching set, and that is exactly what I love about it.
Our parlor is the room where I let myself lean into the older, more decorative side of the house. It is filled with antiques Joey and I have found together, and I love letting those pieces have a little personality of their own.
I want this room to feel at home in a house built in 1915 without ever feeling like a museum. The parlor can be a little formal, a little dramatic, and still feel warm and lived in.
I think that is why this particular corner makes me so happy. It has history, texture, a touch of drama, and that collected-over-time feeling I am always drawn to.
And this is only one little peek into the parlor. I am enjoying sharing the room slowly, one favorite corner and one antique at a time.
Do you have a favorite little corner in your home that just feels like you? Tell me about it in the comments.
